On September 20th, we will celebrate the inauguration of Joan T.A. Gabel as the 17th president of the University of Minnesota.

As we are committed to ensuring accessibility and fiscal stewardship, we will also be livestreaming the installation ceremony, as well as President Gabel’s inaugural address. Because of the livestream and our desire that everyone who wishes to participate is able to do so, there will not be a formal procession.

September 16-19

Prior to Inauguration Day on September 20th, we will host a week of inaugural events on the Twin Cities campus that highlight the depth and breadth of the University’s work. Activities will reflect our mission to educate and prepare tomorrow’s leaders; to foster discovery and innovation that improves quality of life and drives the state’s health and economy; and to promote engagement with Minnesotans to solve challenges statewide.

Friday, September 20

9 a.m. Formal installation ceremony of the University’s 17th president for invited guests, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Board of Regents, and the president's family. The ceremony will be broadcast live online.

Immediately following the address, we will serve a festive lunch on Northrop Mall, featuring a corn roast and Minnesota apples, and there will also be food trucks with food for purchase, a pop-up market featuring alumni-owned businesses, and music. During the lunch, donations will be accepted to support mental health programs at the University.
