April 19, 2018
Dear University of Minnesota community,
I am pleased to announce the launch of our national search for a new Vice President for Equity and Diversity at the University of Minnesota.
The Vice President for Equity and Diversity is responsible for providing visionary leadership across the University of Minnesota System to establish the University as a place known for inclusive excellence in our teaching, research, and outreach with local and global communities.
Achieving substantial progress towards equity, diversity, and inclusion is a monumental challenge. As president I am deeply committed to this work, and we have much to accomplish in this area. We need a leader who helps the University translate our vision and goals into reality. On all five of our system campuses, in our labs, our classrooms, and our residence halls, on our stages and fields, through community partnerships and path-breaking research, we all help to create the future. That future must be one where everyone is welcome, everyone feels safe, and everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Our new vice president will help us identify the path to that future.
Search Committee Composition
I am pleased to announce that Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Education Scott Lanyon and Law School Professor and Associate Dean for Information and Technology Joan Howland have agreed to co-chair the search. We welcome your nominations of individuals to serve on the search committee from across the system and the diverse communities with which we engage. Please submit nominations here.
Search committee nominees will be reviewed beginning April 30. The co-chairs and I will work to provide broad representation on the committee from across the University of Minnesota System and externally. The final list of search committee members and ongoing search process updates will be posted to my website.
The search committee will begin meeting in May, when I will deliver the formal charge and seek input on the position description. In addition, we will host listening sessions with key stakeholders this spring to help shape the position profile and inform our search process. We expect to post the position by the end of May, at which point the search committee will commence with comprehensive recruiting efforts. My aim is to have final candidates visit the University for public interviews in early fall.
If you have questions or would like more information about the position, search process, or application or nomination procedures, please feel free to contact one of the search committee co-chairs (firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com) or Julie Reuvers in my office for assistance.
