Trains, treadmills, take care
Thanks for bringing that powerful and fun new-semester energy back to campus. I felt it when you all arrived over the past few days and, now that you’ve settled in, I want to welcome you back and fill you in on a few things.
First, as I did last spring, I’ll be conducting office hours to meet with students. The first session is scheduled for October 16. Go here for details. I want to hear from you about the critical issues facing students on campus.
Second, the light rail line through campus is undergoing testing, generally late at night. Watch out as you cross the new tracks.
Campus safety is very important to me. Be careful out there. Make good decisions, and take good care of your friends and classmates, too.
Third, check out new facilities that have opened on campus. From the spectacular expansion of our Recreation and Wellness Center to the sparkling and sustainable 17th Avenue Residence Hall, with a great new restaurant open to residents and non-residents alike, it’s an exciting year of renewal on campus.
As the semester unfolds, even as you work and study hard, take advantage of the cultural, athletic, and intellectual events, and the variety of social gatherings on and off campus. Embrace and enjoy our University community and the fabulous Twin Cities. While you’re at it, don’t forget to engage with your professors, who are among the top scholars in the world, and our staff, who keep this place running smoothly.
Have a great school year.
